Serie A champions Inter Milan reportedly view 23-year-old Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey as a long-term replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
According to a report by Italian outlet Inter Live, Jacob Ramsey is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The Serie A champions are scouring the market for a long-term replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Aston Villa midfielder has thus emerged as a target, with the West Midlands outfit demanding around €35 million to part ways with him in the 2025 summer transfer window.
Jacob Ramsey and his journey so far
Jacob Ramsey has established himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in the Premier League in the last few years. A native of Birmingham, the Englishman has been with Aston Villa throughout his footballing journey apart from five months on loan at Doncaster Rovers.
Ramsey has been with Aston Villa since 2007 and broke into the first-team squad in February 2019 as a 17-year-old. Since then, the 23-year-old has been in and out of the starting lineup at Villa Park but endured a frustrating 2023/24 campaign after two impressive seasons with the senior setup.
The English midfielder has turned out 125 times thus far for Aston Villa while chipping in with 13 goals and 13 assists. However, Jacob Ramsey’s spell with the West Midlands outfit might end in the 2025 summer transfer window, with Inter Milan keen on signing him as the long-term successor to Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Interestingly, Tottenham came close to signing him this par summer.
Serie A move on the cards?
Inter Milan’s interest in Jacob Ramsey is understandable. The Serie A champions are in a spot of bother over the long-term future of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who might call time on his spell at San Siro in the 2025 summer transfer window. In addition, the Armenian playmaker is approaching the twilight of his career.
So, Inter Milan should plan for life after Mkhitaryan, with Ramsey emerging as a viable target. However, the 23-year-old Englishman will not come cheap, with Aston Villa valuing him at around €35 million, which might be a prohibitive price tag for the Nerazzurri.
Nevertheless, a valuation of €35 million is fair in the current market, especially for a talented midfielder like Ramsey. So, it will be interesting to see if the English midfielder leaves his boyhood club to join Inter Milan as Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s long-term successor.
