Tottenham watched Samuele Ricci during a recent international game as they plotted a raid on Torino for the deep-lying midfielder.
According to HITC, Samuele Ricci has emerged as a target for Tottenham ahead of the next window. Spurs sent scouts to watch the Italian international in action. The Spurs observers were present for Italy’s game against Israel, and they could plan a raid on Torino for the 23-year-old stylish midfielder.
Samuele Ricci is on Tottenham’s radar
When it comes to style, Samuele Ricci resembles a good mixture of Manchester City star Rodri and Former Italian great Andrea Pirlo. In fact, he’s also very close to Arsenal’s Jorginho, and being compared to the formidable trio in itself shows what talent Torino has on their hands.
A star of Luciano Spalletti’s formidable midfield setup during the current international break. Ricci was instrumental in Italy’s wins over France and Israel. He could soon get a significant move away from Serie A, as Tottenham are now interested in the midfielder.
Torino wants £25 million to sell him, as they rejected lower offers for the midfielder during the summer. Spurs had scouts present during Italy’s win over Israel and were mightily pleased with what they saw of the £25 million-rated Italian international. Hence, come the winter window, Tottenham could potentially knock on Torino’s door to open talks for Ricci.
Ricci had links to Real Madrid before last summer’s window opened, as they were potentially looking for a Toni Kroos replacement. However, with his development so far on track with Torino, it wouldn’t surprise if clubs like Madrid came into the picture for the Italian international, especially for his ability on the ball from the deep-lying position.
Tottenham are thin in midfield
Tottenham’s interest in Ricci could be justified. Following a raft of departures, Ange Postecoglou will feel some shortages in the central midfield area. Giovani Lo Celso, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Oliver Skipp left the club, and Spurs only have limited options in the middle.
Apart from Ricci, they also have Real Betis’ Johnny Cardoso in their sights. Tottenham secured the right to first refusal for the midfielder as part of their deal to sell Lo Celso in the summer. As the early indications suggest, Postecoglou will target a new midfielder with different qualities than his current stars and could make that move in January rather than waiting until next summer.
