Liverpool discussed summer moves for Aurelien Tchouameni, Rodrygo Goes

Liverpool made moves to sign Real Madrid star duo Aurelien Tchouameni and Rodrygo Goes in the summer, but the talks did not progress.

Liverpool were the most inactive Premier League team in the recently concluded transfer window as they only completed a couple of moves. While they surely tried their best to reinforce their squad by bringing in world-class players, things did not go according to plan for them.

According to a report from TBR Football, the Reds knocked on the doors of Real Madrid for the services of Aurelien Tchouameni and Rodrygo Goes quite early in the transfer window. But, Los Blancos had no intentions of sanctioning the departure of their star duo.

The Merseyside club secured the services of Federico Chiesa and struck a deal with Valencia for Giorgi Mamardashvili, who has stayed at the Spanish club on a season-long loan. Apart from the duo, they made several attempts to secure the services of Marti Zubimendi and Anthony Gordon throughout the window.

Liverpool were keen on signing Tchouameni and Rodrygo

Unfortunately, Liverpool could not secure the services of either of their top targets, and the report has now revealed that Liverpool were keen on signing Real Madrid duo Aurelien Tchouameni and Rodrygo Goes. The French international was viewed as a top target to reinforce their midfield, while Rodrygo was seen as the next star winger, with Mohamed Salah in the final phase of his career.

The Reds held talks with Los Blancos. While they did not table an official bid, the Premier League outfit did enquire about the availability of Rodrygo Goes and Aurelien Tchouameni, who have been on their radar for a long while. But, Real Madrid made it quite clear that the duo were not up for sale.

While the arrival of Kylian Mbappe raised quite a few question marks over Rodrygo’s place in the Real Madrid first-team, Carlo Ancelotti was quite clear that the Brazilian would continue to be an integral part of his plans. The 66-year-old wanted him around, and they decided against listening to offers for his services.

While Eduardo Camavinga has excelled as a defensive midfielder, Tchouameni is the preferred choice in that role and with Toni Kroos retiring, it is quite clear why Los Blancos did not want to negotiate his departure.
