Chelsea going all out to sign Lautaro Martinez

Premier League giants Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez, with the Serie A champions valuing the Argentine striker at €100 million.

According to a report by Italian outlet Inter Live, Lautaro Martinez is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues remain in the market for a striker, although a move for the Inter Milan captain will unlikely materialise before the 2025 summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the reigning Serie A champions value the Argentine striker at around €100 million.

The rise and rise of Lautaro Martinez

Lautaro Martinez has been among the best strikers in the world since joining Inter Milan from Racing Club in July 2018. The South American attacker has come leaps and bounds in the last half a dozen years while rising to the stature of club captain at the onset of the 2023/24 season.

Club captaincy has brought the best out of Martinez, whose inspiring performances in the final third helped Inter Milan win the Serie A title last season. While the Argentine striker has not scored yet in his two outings thus far this term, his importance to the Nerazzurri remains high.

The 27-year-old has been a hot property in the market for several years, with widespread reports linking him with several high-profile clubs across Europe, especially from the Premier League. The latest update has revealed that Martinez is a target for Chelsea for the 2025 summer transfer window.

London calling?

Chelsea’s interest in Lautaro Martinez is understandable. The Blues have been keen on signing a prolific striker for several months, although they failed to land their top target, Victor Osimhen, in the summer transfer window. So, Marc Guiu was the only centre-forward to join Chelsea this summer, with Nicolas Jackson remaining the first-choice striker.

Martinez is thus a viable target for Chelsea, with the West London club ready to go all out to sign him next year. However, the 27-year-old will not come cheap, with Inter Milan valuing him at around €100 million.

While €100 million might be a steep price for any player, the Argentine international has justified the valuation with his exploits for his club and country. So, it will be interesting to see if the Inter Milan captain moves to Chelsea next year in a big-money deal.
