Trent Alexander-Arnold has refused Liverpool contract extension

Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly refused a new contract offer from Liverpool, which further fuels speculation surrounding his future.

According to Paisley Gates, Trent Alexander-Arnold has rejected a contract extension offered by Liverpool. The reported decision from the 25-year-old Liverpool mainstay will further fuel speculation surrounding his future as those in charge at Real Madrid will now be watching with acute interest.

Trent Alexander-Arnold refuses extension

The report speculates that Trent Alexander-Arnold has rejected the idea of extending his Liverpool stay as an offer was allegedly proposed by the club. Since the season ended and Jurgen Klopp departed, speculation surrounding the 25-year-old’s future has been rife.

Liverpool were relaxed despite the mounting speculation about Alexander-Arnoild potentially joining Real Madrid last summer. The fact that the right-back stayed at Merseyside will make the prospect of keeping him more challenging for the Reds, as the Spanish giants are pushing to sign him on a free transfer in 2025.

Liverpool have been progressing in the background with proposed talks with the player to extend his stay by way of a new deal. Alexander-Arnold has ambitions to become a future captain at his boyhood club; the idea that he has rejected the chance to extend his stay will come as a blow, particularly to the supporters.

The fact that he has refused an extension doesn’t necessarily mean he has decided to leave Liverpool when his current deal expires. It could also be a way of extracting more in negotiations, as this might have been the initial offer proposed by the club. However, this news will undoubtedly come as a big boost for Real Madrid.

Madrid pushing to sign Alexander-Arnold in 2025

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is keen on executing the dream of bringing Alexander-Arnold and Alphonso Davies on free transfers. As for the Liverpool man, a recent report stated he could take a pay cut to join the Spanish side, with the remainder of the money settled in via a signing-on fee.

Madrid have ageing right backs in Lucas Vazquez and Dani Carvajal, as they will see the Alexander-Arnolld signing fit in like a glove to hand. For Liverpool to lose their 25-year-old mainstay will be a bitter blow and one they might find it challenging to replace for what he brings to the table.
