Manchester United are in talks with Adrien Rabiot over a move, although his wage demands are making a switch difficult.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United and Adrien Rabiot are in talks over a move to Old Trafford. Any deal appears unlikely due to the midfielder’s wage demands. The 29-year-old World Cup finalist has not found a new club since leaving Juventus, and the Red Devils are trying to figure out a move.
Manchester United in Adrien Rabiot talks
Adrien Rabiot is the most high-profile player still available in the market, as the Frenchman could still join a team as a free agent. The midfielder left Juventus when his contract expired in Turin and has been on the lookout for a new club ever since. France boss Didier Deschamps did not select him for the current international rounds in a bid to help the midfielder find a new team.
Rabiot made 35 appearances for Juventus last season as the club were keen to keep him. However, he has chosen to leave, although his search for a new club has hit the blocks following a huge wage demand. Some reports suggested the midfielder was offered to Arsenal and Tottenham, as he was also ready to lower his salary demands.
Even then, Manchester United consider him expensive, and they are engaged in talks with the midfielder and his agent/mother. The Red Devils held internal discussions earlier but have since signed Manuel Ugarte from PSG. The Uruguayan international is expected to play a starring role for Erik ten Hag’s side this term.
As talks continue between the parties, a move is still far from certain as Manchester United are unwilling to match Rabiot’s financial expectations. There is still time to find a resolution, although INEOS are seemingly not prepared to have two high-earning and ageing midfielders in their ranks, with the other one being Casemiro.
Rabiot unlikely to join Manchester United
Manchester United might have seriously considered a move for Rabiot and even paid his demands had they managed to offload Casemiro during the summer. Even after the English window shut, the midfielder had advances from Turkiye, and he had seemingly chosen to stay at Old Trafford.
Casemiro is on high wages, and with just under three years left on his deal, offloading him was always a difficult task. Hence, with the Brazilian still at the club, it is unlikely that Manchester United will bring another high-earner like Rabiot into the mix. This means a deal for the 29-year-old World Cup finalist may not materialise, even if the midfielder improves their current squad.
