Turkish giants Fenerbahce are reportedly the front-runners to sign Manchester United outcast Antony, with the Brazilian pushing for his exit.
According to a report by The Sun, Antony is the subject of interest from Fenerbahce. The Turkish giants are keen on completing a loan move for the out-of-favour Manchester United attacker before the summer transfer window shuts down this week. The Brazilian attacker is pushing to seal his departure from Old Trafford as he looks to resurrect his stuttering career.
Antony and his Manchester United woes
Antony has been a dud since joining Manchester United from Ajax in August 2022, signing a five-year contract with £200,000-a-week wages. While he was hot off the blocks after arriving at Old Trafford two years ago, his performances have not been up to the mark for most of his spell with the Premier League heavyweights.
Antony’s £200,000-a-week wages have made a mockery of the salary structure at Manchester United, especially after he barely scored a goal in the 2023/24 season. Things have gone from bad to worse for the 24-year-old, who has managed only one minute of game time thus far this term.
So, the Brazilian international has fallen to the bottom of the pecking order for attackers at Manchester United, with Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho ahead of him. Meanwhile, the former Ajax attacker’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several clubs, including Fenerbahce.
Turkish move on the horizon?
Fenerbahce’s interest in Antony is understandable. The Turkish giants want to bolster their offensive department before the summer transfer window shuts down in Turkiye on Friday. So, the out-of-favour Manchester United attacker has emerged as a viable target for the European regulars, although they can only afford a loan move for him.
While reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has quashed suggestions that the 24-year-old will leave Manchester United this month, the latest update has refuted those claims. The Sun has reported that the player wants to leave Manchester United and is pushing for a departure from Old Trafford, with Fenerbahce in the pole position to land him.
However, Manchester United might have to bear a portion of his £200,000-a-week wages for the loan move to materialise. It will be interesting to see if the Brazilian international can get his desired exit in the next few days.
