Anthony Martial contract demands block Flamengo move

Former Manchester United striker Anthony Martial’s potential move to Flamengo has collapsed due to the French forward’s high demands.

According to Meia Hora via Sport Witness, Anthony Martial’s search for a new club continues as a potential move to Flamengo has collapsed. The free agent had emerged as a top target for the Brazilian club following an injury to Pedro. While they were keen on signing the French striker, the move has collapsed because of his unrealistic demands.

Martial made quite a name for himself as a teenager while playing for AS Monaco and then secured a big-money move to Manchester United. He was a part of the English giants’ first team setup for around nine years. However, he failed to reach the expected levels.

While the French international did showcase his quality every now and then, he was never really consistent enough, and injuries did not help his cause either. With the Frenchman struggling for form and fitness, Manchester United decided against extending his stay at the club.

Martial parted ways with the Red Devils after the end of the 2023/24 season as his contract ran out. The 28-year-old free agent has been on the lookout for his next club throughout the summer. But, he has not had any success yet.

Martial to replace Pedro? Deal collapses

While the transfer window in most parts of the world is over, the Frenchman had the opportunity to secure a surprise move to Brazilian giants Flamengo. While the win in the South American country closed last Monday, they can still sign free agents and were looking at Martial as an ideal replacement to fill the void left by Pedro’s injury.

The 27-year-old striker has suffered an ACL injury which will keep him out for a long while. As a result, Flamengo were looking to sign Martial, and they were in talks with the French international. But, the move has collapsed because of his massive demands.

Martial wanted a three-year deal on his previous wages to join the South American club. But, the Brazilian outfit believe his demands are beyond their capabilities. They cannot meet his wage demands and neither can they offer him a three-year deal. As a result, the negotiations will not be moving forward and the move has collapsed.
