Arsenal did not include purchase option in Fabio Vieira loan deal

Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira recently completed a loan move to FC Porto, and he will spend the 2024/25 season there.

Fabio Vieira will look to get his career back on track with regular football at Portuguese club FC Porto. Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that his future at Arsenal can still be salvaged. Arsenal are not ready to let go of him just yet, and that is why they refused to include any buy option in his loan deal.

Arsenal wanted the Portuguese midfielder to go out on loan so that he could play regularly, and it remains to be seen whether he can impress with his performances in Portugal.

Romano said on GMS, “After he joined Porto on loan from Arsenal, many people started saying ‘ok, it’s over for Fabio Vieira at Arsenal’. What I’m told is that this is not the case.

“Arsenal only wanted to do a straight loan with no buy option included, because they want to assess the situation of Fabio Vieira again in one year. They told internally that Fabio really needed to play on a constant basis every single weekend, to feel the confidence and feel as an important player for the new club and coach.”

There is no doubt that the Portuguese midfielder, who cost Arsenal £34 million, has the quality to play for the biggest clubs in the world. However, he has not been able to force his way into the starting lineup at Arsenal.

The Gunners have tremendous quality in the final third, and Martin Odegaard has been preferred ahead of him in the attacking midfield role. The Arsenal captain has been indispensable for the club, and Vieira will need to improve immensely in order to play for the Gunners.

Can Fabio Vieira make his mark at Arsenal?

It remains to be seen whether the player is given another opportunity to salvage his Arsenal career next season. For now, he should focus on his growth and development. If he fails to impress Arsenal with his performances this season, the Gunners could look to sell him permanently next summer.

Either way, the loan deal should prove to be the ideal move for all parties. The 24-year-old midfielder will certainly be determined to make a name for himself in the Premier League, and it will be interesting to see how the situation evolves.
