Aston Villa failed with a €15 million bid for highly-rated attacker Semih Kilicsoy of Besiktas in the summer, as Unai Emery wanted a winger.
According to Turkish outlet Aslinda, Besiktas were on hand to reject a €15 million offer from Aston Villa for Semih Kilicsoy in the summer. Unai Emery wanted a new winger right until the end of the window but could not find a viable option, as the Turkish attacker might have been seen as a cheaper alternative to other targets.
Aston Villa failed in Semih Kilicsoy bid
Aston Villa had an exciting summer window, where they sold and bought at volume. Among those who departed was Moussa Diaby, who played a key role for Unai Emery’s side last season, which prompted the manager to demand a new wide attacker before the window shut.
Aston Villa did bring some young names like Samuel Iling-Junior and Jaden Philogene to add support on the wings; Emery still wanted a more prominent name, as he felt a shortage of numbers in the area. The Spanish manager had an interest in Barcelona’s Raphinha, although the Brazilian was unlikely to leave Catalonia.
Federico Chiesa was offered to Aston Villa late in the window. However, by then they might have exhausted their budget for the summer, even though the Italian signed for Liverpool in a €10 million deal. It appears that Villa may have failed with a bid for Turkish talent Semih Kilicsoy of Besiktas.
Aston Villa had made a bid for Kilicsoy in the region of €15 million, as per the report, which Besiktas swiftly turned down. The highly-rated attacker was one of their top players last season and was subsequently selected for the Euros. Besiktas might have agreed to sell him for a higher price, and that might have resulted in Villa switching their attention towards Philogene last summer.
Will Aston Villa respond in January?
Some may argue that Aston Villa’s impressive summer business to fill gaping holes has proved successful, but still not enough for a side competing in the Champions League. With the need for a new winger imminent, Villa would have liked one more star to add up the numbers but never found one.
They also rejected approaches for Jhon Duran in the latter stages of the window, as selling the Colombian would have depleted Emery’s attacking options up front. Either way, Villa could address some of those shortcomings in January, as they could look to complete their squad, especially if they make it past the first phase of the Champions League and are in a strong position in the league.
