Crystal Palace could include release clause in proposed new deal for Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has been linked with a move away from the South London club in recent months.

Newcastle United have been desperate to sign Marc Guehi, and they submitted multiple offers to sign him from Crystal Palace. However, the Magpies failed to get the deal done and eventually walked away from a deal.

According to a report from Football Insider, Crystal Palace are now looking to tie the 24-year-old Euro 2024 finalist down to a new long-term contract, and they are prepared to include a release clause in his deal.

The Englishman has been linked with Liverpool as well, and it will be interesting to see if the Premier League giants are willing to pay up for him. The inclusion of a release clause in his contract would mean that his suitors can sign him for a fixed fee without having to negotiate with the London club.

The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the best defenders in the league, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for Liverpool. Virgil van Dijk is in his twilight years, and Liverpool need to sign a quality long-term partner for Ibrahima Konate. Joe Gomez can be quite unreliable in terms of fitness and Jarell Quansah is still quite young. Signing another established defender like Marc Guehi will be a top priority for Liverpool in the coming months.

Guehi could be tempted to move on

Marc Guehi has proven himself in the Premier League with Crystal Palace, and he will be looking to complete at the highest level and join a big club in the near future. Liverpool could provide him with the platform to compete in the UEFA Champions League.

The Reds have a proven track record of major trophies as well. They are one of the biggest clubs in the country, and the opportunity to play with them will be hard to turn down for the 24 year-old.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United need to bring in defensive reinforcements as well, and they are one of the wealthiest clubs in the country. They could look to return for him next summer, and the inclusion of a release clause will allow them to get a deal done without having to worry about negotiations.
