Liverpool to offer Luis Diaz a new deal amid Barcelona, PSG links

Liverpool are ready to offer Luis Diaz a new, improved deal to ensure the key attacker commits his long-term future to the club.

According to This is Anfield, Liverpool are ready to put down a new contract on the table for Luis Diaz. The Colombian attacker has shown plenty of value to warrant a new deal amid speculation linking him to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain during the summer.

Luis Diaz in line for a new deal

One of the reasons why Liverpool’s once-promising-looking title challenge fell off was because of some underperforming players. Mohamed Salah was a key asset to that charge once again, but he barely recieved any support from his fellow attackers, especially in the latter stages of the campaign.

Luis Diaz, in particular, came in for plenty of criticism for his lack of output, as many fans even wanted him gone in the summer. There were some clubs keen such as Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, who were in contact with the player’s camp

While Barcelona were eventually priced out, Liverpool’s new boss has identified the player as a critical asset to the club going forwards. Arne Slot has reportedly approved the idea of a new deal, and now the Merseysiders are ready to table their offer for the 27-year-old Colombian winger.

Diaz reportedly earns a wage of £50,000 a week, although that could be more when performance-related bonuses are factored in. The 27-year-old still has three years left on his current deal, and despite that, Liverpool will offer him a new deal in a bid to keep hold of the player for the long-term future.

Diaz is an integralpart of Arne Slot’s plans

Diaz has begun the season in fantastic form, scoring thrice already, including a brace at Old Trafford as Liverpool beat Manchester United last Sunday. Despite all the criticisms directed towards the Colombian, there’s an immense feeling that Arne Slot could get the best out of the 27-year-old this season and beyond.

The manager will also feel that the player has shown plenty of promise despite the competition for places, especially after the additon of Federico Chiesa late in the window. Hence, Diaz will have to be on his toes or risk losing his place to the Italian or Cody Gakpo.
