Kieran Trippier has reportedly asked to leave Newcastle United immediately as Turkish sides are the only viable option left.
According to TBR, Kieran Trippier has informed Eddie Howe of his desire to quit Newcastle United with immediate effect. The right-back has always been in two minds about staying at St James Park since last January, and right now, only the Turkish clubs are a viable option for him to consider.
Kieran Trippier to quit Newcastle United?
For months now, speculation surrounding Kieran Trippier has not produced any definitive solution to the player’s future. Newcastle United were open to selling the right back who makes £120,000 a week with two years left on his current deal, although they wanted a hefty price for his sale, and even their loan demands were enormous for clubs to consider.
No club wanted to pay as much for a 33-year-old clearly fading away from his best days as Newcastle United ended up having him in their squad. Their disappointing summer window did not help matters as Eddie Howe barely got anyone through the door, with Lloyd Kelly their only notable signing, that too on a free transfer. Everton were keen in the summer, but Trippier had no interest in joining the Toffees.
In any case, Trippier has grown frustrated at how things have panned out at the club, having lost his place to Tino Livramento and the captaincy to Bruno Guimaraes. Newcastle United were reportedly open to letting him leave should he ask for an exit, and that part of the story might have arrived.
Now, the player has reportedly informed Howe of his decision to leave, which will bring more problems to the manager. The Magpies boss will not want to sanction a sale at this stage, where they are a Livramento injury away from crisis at right-back. However, there’s a feeling the club might accept his wishes and get his £120,000-a-week wages off their books, which could leave the team in a bit of trouble.
Turkish market still open for Trippier
While the other European and Saudi Arabia markets have shut, the Turkish window is still open and will remain the case for more than a week. There’s interest from Euypspor, managed by former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid midfielder Arda Turan.
There are reports of further interest from Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, although how concrete are those overtures remains to be seen. Hence, for Trippier, the only option is to leave for Turkey, and as Newcastle are unlikely to attract a sizeable transfer fee, they will undoubtedly sanction a loan deal if it comes with a buy option.
