According to a report from The Daily Telegraph, Tottenham have a two-week window to sign Johnny Cardoso for €5 million next summer after having reached an agreement with Real Betis during talks regarding Giovani Lo Celso’s return to La Liga.

Real Betis owner Angel Haro has confirmed that the North London club have negotiated an option to buy the 22-year-old American international for €25 million with the option valid for two weeks during the 2025 summer transfer window. If it ends up expiring, other clubs will be allowed to compete for his services.

Cardoso has made quite an impact following his move to Europe at the start of the year. So far, he has featured in 23 matches for the Spanish club and has made quite a name for himself. His performances have not gone unnoticed and quite a few top clubs want to sign him.

While Cardoso still has around five years left on his deal, the Spanish outfit are ready to cash in on him next summer. Tottenham could be a potential destination for the youngster as they already have a massive advantage in the race for his services.

Tottenham negotiate a buy option for Cardoso

Real Betis were in talks with the North London club to sign Giovani Lo Celso to fill in for the departing Nabil Fekir. During those negotiations, Spurs were keen on including an option to sign Cardoso next summer.

Tottenham were willing to offer €25 million for the 22-year-old defensive midfielder, and the Spanish club were more than happy to meet their demands as it allowed them to bring Lo Celso back to La Liga in a cut-price deal.

Tottenham have surely done some exceptional work in the recently-concluded window, and this deal in particular could be one of their highlights as they managed to get rid of Lo Celso who was surplus to requirements and managed to get an option to buy Cardoso next summer.

While exact details have not been made public yet, Spurs will have to pay €25 million and the option will be available for two weeks. Once the deadline is over, other clubs will be able to challenge Ange Postecoglou’s team for his services.
