Real Madrid might launch the offensive to sign 27-year-old Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong next year as a long-term successor to Toni Kroos.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Real Madrid Exclusivo, Frenkie de Jong is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a creative midfielder who can be the long-term successor to Toni Kroos. The 27-year-old Barcelona midfielder has thus emerged as a target, although a 2025 summer move will come as a shocker.
The Frenkie de Jong story
Frenkie de Jong has been one of the best midfielders in the world for over half a decade. The Dutchman spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Willem II. However, he rose in prominence during his spell with Ajax, becoming a highly sought-after player in the market during his spell with the club.
Barcelona signed de Jong from Ajax in July 2019, and he has been one of the most consistent performers for the Blaugrana in the last half a decade. The 27-year-old has turned out over 200 times thus far for Barcelona while chipping in with 17 goals and 21 assists.
However, the Dutch midfielder has struggled with fitness issues in the last 12 months, although that has not impacted his stock in the market. The summer transfer window saw several high-profile clubs considering securing Frenkie de Jong’s services before Hansi Flick blocked his exit. He has now emerged as a target for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid plot surprise de Jong move
Real Madrid’s interest in Frenkie de Jong is shocking. While the Barcelona midfielder can be the long-term successor to Toni Kroos, securing his services in the 2025 summer transfer window will be a tall order for Los Blancos. Nevertheless, Real Madrid might launch the offensive to sign him to replace Kroos next year.
Widespread reports have suggested that Florian Wirtz is the top target for Real Madrid to fill the void left by Toni Kroos’s departure next summer. As for de Jong, convincing the 27-year-old Dutchman to leave Barcelona for Real Madrid might be a tall order for Los Blancos.
The Dutch midfielder has already snubbed many high-profile clubs to remain with Barcelona. So, it is difficult to imagine him leaving Barcelona to join Real Madrid in the 2025 summer transfer window.
