Marc Guehi wants to concentrate on his football amid contract extension talks

Marc Guehi is not keen on holding contract renewal talks with Crystal Palace amidst interest from Newcastle United, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea.

According to a report from HITC, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle United are set to be on high alert following Marc Guehi’s stance on his future. Crystal Palace are keen on extending his stay following a failed move away from the club. However, the player, valued at around £75 million, wants to focus on his football.

Things might not have worked out for Guehi at Chelsea. However, the move to Crystal Palace in the summer of 2021 has helped him establish himself as one of the best young defenders in the Premier League. He was one of their standout performers last season and carried his form into Euro 2024.

English giants wanted to sign Marc Guehi

On the back of an impressive European Championship with England, multiple top clubs in the country wanted to prise him away. Manchester United and Liverpool were two of the biggest clubs who were linked with the 24-year-old.

The Red Devils were looking for defensive reinforcement after having struggled last time out. Meanwhile, the Reds were looking to replace Joel Matip who had left the club following the expiry of his contract. In addition, Chelsea have also been keeping tabs on his progress at Crystal Palace.

While Liverpool and Manchester United were in talks to sign Marc Guehi, Palace’s £75 million asking price proved to be too much for them. Despite the high asking price, Newcastle United were going all out to sign the English international. Eddie Howe is a huge admirer of the former Chelsea star and he wanted to add him to their squad to reinforce the Tyneside club’s backline.

The Magpies were in talks to sign him and even submitted multiple bids for the young centre-back. Despite being ready to pay £70 million to bring him to the club, they could not secure his services as the Palace owner Steve Parish increased his demands to £75 million.

Guehi is not keen on a new deal

Despite all their efforts, Newcastle United could not strike a deal with the Eagles, and Marc Guehi is staying at the club. While he will continue at Crystal Palace for now, his long-term future is not certain by any means. With his contract running out in less than 24 months, interested clubs are on red alert and they are closely monitoring his situation.

While the Eagles are keen on extending his stay at the club, the 24-year-old defender has made his stance clear. He is not interested in holding any renewal talks at this stage, Guehi wants to focus his efforts on doing his best for Crystal Palace and England rather than on his future.

The player and his representatives want football to take centre stage with the new season now underway. If he does not end up signing a new deal, the Eagles will have to consider offloading him in the future. They cannot afford to keep standing in his way amid his links with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle United.
