Official: Manchester United secure agreement to sign Manuel Ugarte

Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent basis.

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Manuel Ugarte on a permanent basis from Paris Saint-Germain. The Uruguayan midfielder was Erik ten Hag’s top target as a long, drawn-out saga comes to a close, as the PSG star will replace the departed Scott McTominay.

Manchester United confirm Manuel Ugarte’s signing

A midfielder was needed on priority for Manchester United this summer, as many had pointed out the apparent deficiencies in the middle of the park following a dreadful season last time out. They had hoped to sell Casemiro amid emerging interest from Saudi Arabia, but that never materialised.

Manchester United had identified Manuel Ugarte as their priority target a while ago, and the deal went cold as the two clubs could not agree on a fee. Since PSG signed Joao Neves, they softened their stance on the 23-year-old midfielder, which allowed the Red Devils to restart conversations with the French giants.

Manchester United agreed on a €60 million fee with PSG for the Uruguayan, who was signed from Sporting CP last summer for a similar price. The Red Devils will pay €50 million in fixed costs, with the remaining €10 million in add-ons, as this seemed like an acceptable fee from the Parisians’ perspective.

Ugarte has signed a long-term deal at Manchester United with the option of an extra season, as he will come straight into Ten Hag’s midfield. There is competition for places which will be a good dilemma for the Dutch manager to have, as the Red Devils have needed a player of the 23-year-old midfielder’s ilk.

Manuel Ugarte to replace Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay has made his move to Napoli today, as Manchester United announced the Ugarte soon after. The Uruguayan is a direct replacement for the Scotsman, as he will fill the gap left by the new Napoli midfielder.

For Manchester United, the upgrade is taking the proper steps, and the Ugarte signing does indicate they are moving correctly in this project under Ten Hag and INEOS. Ugarte might not feature at the weekend as they might not have registered him in time for Matchday 3, although they could also have done it as this deal was agreed many days ago;
