Official: Arsenal complete deal to sign Brazilian goalkeeper Neto

Arsenal have announced the signing of goalkeeper Neto on a season-long loan deal from Bournemouth as he replaces Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Neto from Bournemouth on a season-long loan deal. The Cherries were willing to part ways with the experienced South American ace, having already signed a replacement, as the Gunners were keen to add a late replacement for Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal signs Neto

Arsenal were in for some business on deadline day, and many of their fans will be somewhat satisfied at the way things have panned out so far. They are closing in on Raheem Sterling in the final hours as talks with Chelsea are ongoing for the winger, while Reiss Nelson could leave on a temporary deal to newcomers Ipswich Town.

They also sold Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton in a £25 million deal, including add-ons. The England international’s departure meant Arsenal had to find a new No.2 to deputise for David Raya and had sights on Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, who was their priority target to replace Ramsdale for a while.

Espanyol wanted Arsenal to pay his entire €30 million release clause, but the Gunners were reluctant to do so, as they had lodged a €20 million offer, including add-ons. With limited time left in the window, Arsenal soon switched their attention towards Bournemouth’s Neto, who became free after the arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan.

Arsenal have now signed Neto on a season-long loan deal from Bournemouth and might pay an undisclosed loan fee to the Cherries. The contract does not consist of any buy option or obligation, as the experienced South American ace is clearly seen as a stop-gap replacement for Ramsdale.

Neto adds experience to this Arsenal squad

While there’s already a healthy contingent of Brazilian players, Neto will not take long to ease into this squad. As Joan Garcia was considered their priority target to replace Ramsdale, the acquisition of the experienced South American ace should not be seen as a downgrade.

The player has immense experience playing in Spain as well as two seasons in the Premier League now with Bournemouth. Should he be needed to deputise, Neto will add ample cover to Raya, although he is cup-tied for the Carabao Cup, having featured for Bournemouth earlier this week.
