West Ham United have reportedly agreed to sign 27-year-old Spanish midfielder Carlos Soler in a deadline-day loan move from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Carlos Soler is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers have been keen on signing the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder for several weeks. They have finally secured an agreement with the Ligue 1 champions to loan the 27-year-old, with the deal including a purchase option.
Carlos Soler and his PSG problems
Carlos Soler has seen his stock drop considerably since joining Paris Saint-Germain from Valencia in September 2022. The Spaniard has been a bit-part player for Les Parisiens in the last two seasons, with Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, and Warren Zaire-Emery ahead of him in the pecking order.
The 27-year-old has managed only 2,807 minutes of game time across 63 appearances thus for PSG while chipping in with eight goals and eight assists. In addition, Soler has yet to feature for the reigning Ligue 1 champions this season, with Luis Enrique not considering his compatriot in his plans.
So, it is hardly surprising that speculation has grown like wildfire around Carlos Soler’s future in the last few weeks. The Spanish midfielder does not have a shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with Premier League clubs, in particular, vying for his signature. The former Valencia midfielder’s next destination will be West Ham United.
London calling
West Ham United’s interest in Carlos Soler is understandable. The Hammers have been keen on reinforcing their midfield department in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties around the futures of Tomas Soucek and James Ward-Prowse. While Soucek will remain at the London Stadium, Ward-Prowse will leave West Ham to join Nottingham Forest before Friday’s transfer deadline.
So, Soler has been a viable target for West Ham United, with the Spaniard eager to join the East London club for several days. However, the Hammers needed to offload some fringe players before making room for the 27-year-old midfielder.
James Ward-Prowse’s impending departure means West Ham United have cleared room for Soler to move to the London Stadium. The Spanish midfielder will complete his loan move from PSG today, with West Ham covering his wages. In addition, the Hammers have a purchase option in the agreement with the Ligue 1 champions.
