Ipswich Town revive talks to sign Armando Broja

Ipswich Town and Chelsea have reportedly revived their talks regarding a loan-to-buy move for 22-year-old Albanian striker Armando Broja.

According to an update by the reliable Nizaar Kinsella on the BBC, Armando Broja remains the subject of interest from Ipswich Town. The Tractor Boys have reignited their talks to sign the Chelsea attacking prospect after discussions broke down earlier this week. Despite issues in the young striker’s medical, the newly promoted Premier League club will look to land him, albeit on renegotiated terms.

The Armando Broja blow

Armando Broja was once among the most highly-rated young strikers in the Premier League after a successful loan spell with Southampton. While he showed promise at St. Mary’s, an untimely knee injury stunted his progress, and he returned to action much below the required levels to be a regular for Chelsea.

So, Broja hardly featured for the West London club in the first half of the 2023/24 season before they loaned him to Fulham earlier this year. However, the move across West London did not work either, and he managed only 81 minutes of game time across eight appearances for the Cottagers.

Despite Armando Broja’s falling stock and the non-existent Chelsea future, his demand remains high in the market, with AC Milan, Everton, and VfB Stuttgart among his prospective suitors in the summer transfer window. The Albanian international’s next destination might be Ipswich Town.

Will Ipswich Town sign Broja?

Ipswich Town came close to sealing a loan-to-buy deal to sign Armando Broja from Chelsea earlier this week. The agreement included a mandatory purchase clause worth £30 million if the Tractor Boys remained in the Premier League beyond the 2024/25 season. However, the young striker produced some issues in his medical checks, with his foot not in the right state.

So, the newly promoted Premier League club’s talks with Chelsea broke down. However, the Tractor Boys have revived the negotiations with the West London outfit, although they will look to renegotiate the terms of the original loan-to-buy agreement.

Despite the foot injury, Broja is in Albania’s squad for the upcoming international break. So, Ipswich Town’s fears have reduced, and they reckon he will be back on the field soon. It will be interesting to see if the renewed talks lead to another agreement between Ipswich and Chelsea.
