Crystal Palace agree loan deal to sign Matt Turner

Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign American shot-stopper Matt Turner on a season-long loan.

According to a report from Paul Taylor of The Athletic, Crystal Palace have struck a deal with Nottingham Forest to acquire the services of Matt Turner for the 2024/25 season. The Nottingham Forest goalkeeper is all set to make the move to Selhurst Park before the end of the deadline day if everything goes according to plan.

Matt Turner’s time in England

Turner made a name for himself while playing for Major League Soccer club New England Revolution. His consistent performances resulted in interest from Arsenal, who ended up signing him in the summer of 2022.

Unfortunately, the move did not work out for both parties despite Turner keeping four clean sheets in seven outings, and he ended up joining Nottingham Forest last summer. In his debut campaign for the club, he was involved in 21 matches and could only keep three clean sheets.

While he still has three years left on his deal with the Premier League outfit, he is unlikely to have much game time next season with Matz Sels and Carlos Miguel expected to be ahead of him in the pecking order. The 30-year-old was left out of their squad for their first two league fixture and is now closing in on an exit.

Crystal Palace closing in on signing Turner

Crystal Palace, who have been on the lookout for a backup goalkeeper, have struck a deal with Nottingham to bring Turner to the club on a temporary basis. After allowing Sam Johnstone to join Wolves on a permanent deal, the Eagles have been looking for someone who can provide cover to Dean Henderson, with recent reports linking them with Mark Travers.

The South Londoners feel Turner could be an ideal replacement and have been working on a potential deal. He will start as a backup to Henderson but could challenge the former Manchester United shot-stopper for a more prominent role. While they have secured an agreement with the Tricky Trees, there is an update on whether the player is interested in making the move to the Eagles.
