Villarreal are keeping tabs on any last-minute opportunities on Jakub Kiwior, with Arsenal currently stating they want to keep the defender.
According to Fichajes, Villarreal are looking to sign Jakub Kiwioor if an opportunity opens up in the final days of the transfer window. The Gunners have softened their earlier stance on the Polish defender and now plan to keep hold of him for the current season or at least until January.
Jakub Kiwior situation
Arsenal signed Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, while Jurrien Timber has made his comaback from a severe injury that saw him miss the entirety of the previous campaign. With those two in the squad, Mikel Arteta might have considered Jakub Kiwior as an expendable asset and a possibility to leave in this window.
There have been reports linking the 24-year-old utility man with a return to Italy, although there’s Premier League interest with Crystal Palace keeping tabs on his situation. Kiwior has been a good player under Arteta, although he might lack in quality compared to the others.
Bologna are also keen, and they could be a good option if he prefers a return to Serie A. The defender was not part of Arsenal’s matchday squad for their opening game against Wolves, although he returned for the away trip to Aston Villa, after which the club softened their initial stance.
Arsenal have decided to keep Kiwior for the current season, as this decision might have some connection with the Takehiro Tomiyasu injury. He does add cover to both their central defenders and at left-back, meaning Arteta might prefer to keep a player who knows the system well.
Villarreal keeping tabs
Villarreal are now keeping close tabs on an opportunity that might arise with Kiwior in the final days of the transfer window. The Spanish side does wish to add a solid centre-back to their ranks, although the position is not a priority or a must-have before the deadline day.
They will make themselves present in the race should Arsenal have a late change of heart about the defender’s situation. There’s also the chance that Kiwior might ask to leave should he envisage a lack of regular action in this packed Arsenal defence. Hence, there’s every chance for Villarreal to sign him for the right price, although the Gunners’ current stance does make it seem improbable.
