Federico Chiesa has officially joined Liverpool from Juventus, completing his medical and finalising the terms of a long-term contract.
In an official statement on Liverpool’s website, the Reds have confirmed that Federico Chiesa has completed his move from Juventus. The Italian international has completed his medical checks while finalising the terms of a long-term contract with the Merseyside outfit.
Meanwhile, the reliable Paul Joyce has revealed that Liverpool will cough up a guaranteed fee of £10 million to sign Chiesa from Juventus. The agreement also includes £2.5 million in add-ons, with the bonuses depending on the club winning the Premier League and Champions League. The player has signed a four-year contract while turning down interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.
Meanwhile, Chiesa expressed his delight at completing the move to Liverpool, saying, “I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans. So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.”
Federico Chiesa has been searching for his next club for several months after Thiago Motta ruled the 26-year-old out of his plans for the 2024/25 season. The Italian international turned out 131 times for Juventus while chipping in with 32 goals and 23 assists.
While Chiesa was one of the best players in Serie A for several years, he has not been at his best since returning from a long-term injury layoff. The 26-year-old struggled to stamp his authority in the 2023/24 season and was not at the races during UEFA Euro 2024. However, despite his inconsistency, the player did not have a shortage of suitors, with Barcelona pursuing his services.
But, the equation changed after Liverpool joined the race to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus earlier this week. The Italian winger’s head turned after Liverpool enquired about him, and all the parties quickly sealed the agreement regarding the deal worth £10 million.
He has now become the second summer signing for Liverpool after Giorgi Mamardashvili, who has returned to Valencia after completing his move. It will be interesting to see if Chiesa can make his mark for Liverpool this season, although he will likely spend most of the 2024/25 season as a backup player.
