Mohamed Simakan would prefer to join a Premier League side if he leaves RB Leipzig, with Newcastle United looking at him as an option.
According to HITC, Newcastle United’s chances of signing Mohamed Simakan received a push after the defender’s preference became apparent. The RB Leipzig star would prefer a move to the Premier League if he left the Bundesliga, as the Magpies consider him as a significant alternative to Marc Guehi.
Mohamed Simakan wants a Premier League move
Mohamed Simakan might consider his future at RB Leipzig even at this stage of the transfer window should a big offer from the Premier League arrive. The 24-year-old versatile Frenchman, who can play centrally as well as a right-back, may need to take a big step in his career, as some clubs are showing an interest.
Barcelona are considering him, although the player would prefer a move to the Premier League. Moreover, the Catalans are struggling to free up wages and register their current players for the season, meaning a move for Simakan seems unlikely at this stage.
Newcastle United are in contact with his camp, as director Paul Mitchell considers him an option to strengthen their defence. The Magpies could sound out a late move for the 24-year-old versatile Frenchman and open conversations with RB Leipzig, who might demand a significant fee.
However, Simakan is not seen as a priority target by Newcastle United ahead of the last days of this transfer window. Marc Guehi remains their primary target, as they have been confident of sealing a move for the Crystal Palace star, despite their £70 million-plus asking price for the England international. However, the latest updates have suggested that a move for Guehi will not materialise.

Newcastle United have been wary not to head into deadline day with only Guehi on their minds, as there is every chance the player might stay at Palace. While they remain confident of landing the England international, the Magpies are keeping their options open.
They also have Trevoh Chalobah on their list, as well as many others, although these would only come when Guehi leaves. Hence, with Simakan and the likes of Chalobah, Newcastle United are looking in the right direction when it comes to alternatives for Guehi, as either will be significantly cheaper than the Palace star. However, Al-Nassr might pip them to Simakan’s signature if the Magpies do not step up.
