Lazio begin negotiations to sign Victor Lindelof

Serie A club Lazio will reportedly look to sign 30-year-old Swedish defender Victor Lindelof from Manchester United before the summer transfer window shuts down.

According to a report by Italian outlet Il Messaggero, Victor Lindelof is the subject of interest from Lazio. The Serie A giants are keen on signing a centre-back before the summer transfer window shuts down. The seven-season Manchester United veteran has emerged as a target, with the Biancocelesti opening talks to sign the 30-year-old from the Premier League club.

Victor Lindelof and his Manchester United career so far

Victor Lindelof has blown hot and cold since joining Manchester United from SL Benfica in July 2017. The Swede arrived at Old Trafford amid hype and fanfare around him after Barcelona also chased his signature before he joined the Red Devils.

A veteran of seven seasons at Old Trafford, the 30-year-old has turned out over 250 times thus far for Manchester United while chipping in with four goals and seven assists. However, Lindelof has not been the undisputed first-choice starter for the Premier League outfit since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time as the manager ended a few years ago.

In addition, the Sweden international has entered the final 12 months of his contract with Manchester United. So, the Red Devils are running out of time to cash in on him, meaning they are eager to part ways with him before the summer transfer window shuts down. Serie A might be Victor Lindelof’s next destination, with Lazio considering a late move.

Serie A beckoning?

Lazio’s interest in Victor Lindelof is understandable. The Serie A giants are keen on signing a centre-back before the summer transfer window shuts down as Mario Gila and Nicolo Casale are unavailable for the foreseeable future. So, Lindelof has emerged as a viable target for Lazio.

The Biancocelesti and Manchester United are already in talks regarding a move for the 30-year-old Swede, with the Serie A outfit beginning negotiations to sign the seven-season veteran. However, Lazio might not be the only Serie A club considering a late move for Lindelof, with the experienced defender also a target for Fiorentina.

It will be interesting to see how discussions between Lazio and Manchester United progress in the coming hours. The negotiations will need to ramp up for the Serie A outfit to land the Swedish defender, with time running out for the deal to see the light of day.
