Everton might look to bring Sofyan Amrabat back to the Premier League after his season-long loan spell with Manchester United ended earlier this year.
According to a report by talkSPORT, Sofyan Amrabat is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their midfield department before the summer transfer window shuts down. The Fiorentina midfielder has thus emerged as a target, with the Merseyside outfit approaching the Serie A club to discuss a move for the 28-year-old midfielder.
The Sofyan Amrabat story
Sofyan Amrabat has been at a crossroads in his career for several months. The player’s stock was at an all-time high after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which saw him producing several game-changing performances for Morocco. Several high-profile clubs sought his signature in 2023 before Manchester United completed a season-loan loan move last summer.
The 28-year-old managed only 1,545 minutes of game time across 30 appearances for Manchester United. While Amrabat’s dream move to Manchester United did not work as well as he would have liked, a return to the Premier League might be on the cards in the summer transfer window.
Recent reports have linked the Moroccan international with Fenerbahce. Manchester United also briefly mulled over a deal for the player before ruling out re-signing him this summer. Amrabat patiently waited for Manchester United but has set his sights on a different move this year. However, Everton might offer him a way back to the Premier League.
Premier League return on the cards?
Everton’s interest in Sofyan Amrabat is understandable. The Toffees have been keen on signing another midfielder in the summer transfer window despite landing Tim Iroegbunam earlier this summer. So, several candidates have emerged on Everton’s radar, with recent reports claiming they are closing in on signing Orel Mangala from Lyon.
However, the latest updates have revealed that Fiorentina might have hijacked Everton’s move for the 28-year-old former Manchester United midfielder. That has forced the Merseyside club’s hand, with Amrabat emerging as a target.
Interestingly, Fiorentina’s hijack might force Everton to sign a midfielder from La Viola. While the Toffees have enquired about the Moroccan international, they must move quickly to secure his services, considering he is also a target for Fenerbahce.
