Newcastle United confident of landing Marc Guehi

Newcastle United remain optimistic about completing the Mrc Guehi transfer as talks with Crystal Palace progress for the defender.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are confident of signing Marc Guehi before the transfer deadline. The defender has a decision on his hands to leave Crystal Palace this late in the window, as personal terms with the magpies are not considered a problem.

Newcastle United optimistic over Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace have shown immense grit and resilience in putting their foot down when it came to their player evaluations. The Marc Guehi saga has been going on for weeks now and could drag well in the deadline day, as the Eagles are holding out for a fee in excess of £70.

Newcastle United began bidding a few weeks ago, and so far, they have seen four offers rebuffed for the Palace defender. The 24-year-old England international saw his value skyrocket following some important performances for club and country, helping the latter reach the Euro 2024 Final.

Hence, they do not want to lose him on the cheap and have stuck with their valuation. Newcastle United are closing in on their priority summer target, with a deal likely to conclude positively before Friday’s deadline, as the Magpies are confident of bringing the 24-year-old England international. They have also looked at alternatives, but none come close to what Guehi can offer to their squad.

They are showing signs of meeting Palace’s valuation for the player, which will undoubtedly make Eddie Howe’s side stronger at the back. Moreover, such a signing will be a big statement of intent as Newcastle United are eager to break back into the top four, while the defender’s presence also gives them a chance to aim for higher targets.

Will Palace find a replacement?

The lateness of this deal, should it conclude, will bring Palace immense funds but no time to use them to find a suitable replacement for Guehi. They have already sold Joachim Andersen to Fulham, meaning the Eagles will have to target at least two new centre-backs to strengthen their backline, which at this moment looks depleted.

Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix is a target, while they also have sights on Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, although the Gunners have reportedly closed the door on the defender’s exit. Hence, there has been a suggestion in the reporting that the final decision will fall on Guehi’s hands, on whether he wishes the club this late in the window that may render Palace helpless in their efforts to sign a quality replacement.
