Intermediaries have reportedly offered Barcelona the opportunity to sign 29-year-old Spanish defender Mario Hermoso in a Bosman move this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will have the opportunity to sign Mario Hermoso in the summer transfer window. Intermediaries have offered the 29-year-old defender to the Blaugrana over a free transfer, with the former Atletico Madrid centre-back a free agent after running down his contract at the Civitas Metropolitano.
Mario Hermoso and his career so far
Mario Hermoso has been among the best defenders in La Liga in the last few years. A native of Madrid, the Spaniard progressed through the ranks at Real Madrid but could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Santiago Bernabeu. Instead, he rose in prominence at Espanyol before Atletico Madrid snapped him in July 2019.
The 29-year-old spent half a decade at Atletico Madrid, winning a La Liga title once while turning out 174 times for the Spanish giants while chipping in with ten goals and six assists. However, Hermoso is now a free agent after running down his contract with Los Rojiblancos.
While the 29-year-old La Liga-winning defender should have been an attractive option for clubs due to his status as a free agent, a move has not seen the light of day. In addition, Andreas Christensen has sustained an achilles issue, restricting him to the sidelines for the foreseeable future. Recent reports have linked Barcelona with several centre-backs, including Jonathan Tah.
However, the 29-year-old La Liga-winning defender is also a viable option for the Blaugrana. But it is unclear if they will launch the offensive to secure his services before the summer transfer window shuts down.
