Liverpool ready to postpone key deals until January window

Arne Slot’s Liverpool are prepared to postpone key deals until the transfer window reopens in January.

According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are willing to take the back seat in the ongoing transfer window. The Reds are content to delay key deals until the January window, with club chiefs reluctant to sanction any signings due to concerns over inflated prices.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool are the only Premier League team that are yet to sign a player. They have embarked on a new journey with the Dutch manager after a long and successful spell under the reign of Jurgen Klopp. While the Reds do need to bring in players who can help the manager better implement his style, they haven’t been effective enough in the transfer window.

Liverpool’s transfer plans

Slot has inherited quite a strong set of players but he has identified a few key areas that need reinforcement. He wants to bring in a new centre-back, a central midfielder and a wide attacker before the end of the window. The Reds were linked with Martin Zubimendi and reports suggested he was close to making the move to Anfield but ultimately decided against it.

While they have added Giorgi Mamardashvili to their squad, he will stay at Valencia for the 2024/25 season as Alisson Becker continues to be the Liverpool number one. The Reds might have missed out on Zubimendi but they are looking at Federico Chiesa to reinforce their flanks and are on the verge of signing him from Juventus.

Liverpool could delay key moves until January

While a wide attacker might end up joining the club this summer, other key deals could be delayed until January as they haven’t been able to do much in the summer.

Those three areas are their top targets but the Merseyside club’s chiefs Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards have been reluctant to sanction any deal because of the inflated price tags.

They have no plans to rush into any moves despite the fact that the club is under a rebuild following the departure of Klopp. The Reds will only make a move in this window if they see the right opportunity.
