Crystal Palace might launch a late bid to sign 25-year-old Bosnian defender Anel Ahmedhodzic from Championship club Sheffield United this summer.
According to a report by Football Insider, Anel Ahmedhodzic is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles are keen on signing at least one centre-back before the summer transfer window shuts down. The 25-year-old Sheffield United defender has thus emerged as a target for the South London outfit.
Anel Ahmedhodzic and his career so far
Anel Ahmedhodzic has been a reliable performer for Sheffield United since arriving from Malmo FF in July 2022. Born in Sweden, he began his youth career with Malmo but graduated from the youth division at Nottingham Forest before returning to Malmo in January 2019.
The 25-year-old captured the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe but completed a surprise move to Sheffield United instead. Ahmedhodzic has turned out 75 times thus far for the EFL Championship club while chipping in with nine goals and two assists.
Meanwhile, despite Sheffield United’s struggles, Anel Ahmedhodzic’s stock in the market remains high, with many well-known clubs setting their sights on him. Recent reports have linked the Bosnian and Herzegovina international with Napoli, but he might return to the Premier League amid emerging interest from Crystal Palace.
Premier League return on the horizon?
Crystal Palace’s interest in Anel Ahmedhodzic is understandable. The Eagles are keen on signing a centre-back after parting ways with Joachim Andersen, who rejoined Fulham last week. In addition, they are in a spot of bother over the long-term future of Marc Guehi, who might join Newcastle United before Friday’s summer transfer window deadline.
So, several candidates, including Maxence Lacroix, have emerged on Crystal Palace’s radar. However, Ahmedhodzic is also a viable target for the South London club, considering his experience in English football in the last few years. The 25-year-old might also be eager to embark on a new adventure after Sheffield United’s relegation to the EFL Championship.
However, Lacroix is Crystal Palace’s top target, with Tomas Araujo also on the South London club’s radar. So, it will be interesting to see if a move for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international sees the light of day before Friday’s summer transfer window deadline.
