West Ham are reportedly interested in a move for former Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who could leave Besiktas.
According to TBR, West Ham might be plotting a surprise move for former Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The 31-year-old could leave Besiktas and is reportedly eager a return to England, as the Hammers could make space for the arrival of a new midfielder.
West Ham are keen on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had an indifferent career, spending six years at Arsenal and the next six with Liverpool, where he won the Premier League title back in the 2019-20 season. At both his former sides, he suffered multiple injury problems, which eventually played its part in the Merseysiders not offering him a new deal when his contract expired.
Those issues also saw a lack of interest from the English sides, who were unwilling to take the risk on the midfielder. However, after a season at Besiktas in Turkey and playing 31 times last season, there are some clubs keen on bringing the 31-year-old back to England, with West Ham United one of those keen.
The Hammers have seen links to a new midfielder, with reports suggesting they are still looking to make some squad changes ahead of the final days of the transfer window. Carlos Soler has been heavily linked, but the prospect of the 31-year-old former Premier League winner’s availability could see them change plans.
Besiktas are in some financial distress, and Oxlade-Chamberlain is reportedly open to making a Premier League return. Overall, the Hammers might see this move as a low-cost signing, and bringing in someone with tremendous experience in the league would make sense for their plans in the future.
West Ham making space for a midfielder
West Ham are reportedly making space in their midfield to accommodate a new player. They are probably doing the same in their forward line as Tammy Abraham remains linked with a move, with Danny Ings likely to make way in the later stages of the market.
West Ham are open to offers for James Ward-Prowse despite a good enough debut season at the London Stadium. Should they manage that, a move for either one of Oxlade-Chamberlain or Soler might be on the cards for the Hammers?
