Manchester United make decision on their pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat

Manchester United are not willing to meet Fiorentina’s demands for midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, as another approach seems unlikely.

According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, Sofyan Amrabat’s chances of returning to Manchester United appear to be over, as the club are unwilling to meet Fiorentina’s demands. There’s still no clarity on whether the Red Devils will pursue a deal on different conditions, as they are closing in on Manuel Ugarte.

Manchester United unlikely to sign Sofyan Amrabat

Sofyan Amrabat had a mixed season at Manchester United while on loan from Fiorentina. The Red Devils agreed on a hefty loan fee with a buy option worth a reported €20 million, which has since expired and the midfielder back with the Italian side, where he has started their opening two games in Serie A.

Amrabat had been hopeful of re-joining Manchester United all summer long, and the dream might be over for the Moroccan. Erik ten Hag played the 27-year-old midfield powerhouse outside of his preferred roles last season and did find his best form in the latter stages of the campaign, but that has not been enough to convince a board.

In fact, Ten Hag might prefer to have Amrabat back in his squad as a backup player to improve depth. However, it appears like a club decision as Manchester United are unwilling to match Fiorentina’s €15 million asking price for the 27-year-old midfield powerhouse. Hence, it seems the slim hopes of Amrabat returning to Old Trafford appear to be over.

The report does not clarify whether Manchester United are willing to negotiate on lower terms, as it abruptly ends by suggesting Amrabat might stay at Fiorentina for another campaign. Other reports were stating he might join Fenerbahce, although that might also be seen as a step-down from Fiorentina at this stage of his career.

Manchester United pushing towards Manuel Ugarte

Amrabat had been on their list of midfield targets, although it appears Manchester United are closing in on Manuel Ugarte. The club have held extensive discussions for the Uruguayan with his side PSG, as an agreement is close to being achieved.

Scott McTominay might be leaving soon after Manchester United accepted an offer from Napoli, which could still see them target another midfielder. Whether that happens remains to be seen, as Amrabat will be in their thinking as a low-cost option and someone who does fit Ten Hag’s system.
