Liverpool eyeing Adrien Truffert as Andrew Robertson successor

Premier League heavyweights Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Adrien Truffert as a long-term successor to Andrew Robertson.

According to a report by Football Insider, Adrien Truffert is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are keen on signing a left-back before the summer transfer window shuts down as they look for a successor to Andrew Robertson. They have thus identified the 22-year-old Belgian-born Stade Rennais defender as Robertson’s long-term replacement.

Who is Adrien Truffert?

Adrien Truffert has established himself as one of the best young full-backs in Ligue 1 in the last few years. Born in Liege, Belgium, the Frenchman spent his formative years in France, passing through the academies at ES Jouy Saint-Prest and FC Chartres before graduating from the youth division at Stade Rennais.

The 22-year-old made his first-team bow for Stade Rennais in September 2020 and has come leaps and bounds in the last four years. Truffert has turned out over 150 times thus far for Rennes while chipping in with six goals and 21 assists. He was recently a part of France’s squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics, with the home nation winning the silver medal after losing to Spain in the final.

Meanwhile, Adrien Truffert’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Recent reports have linked the Belgian-born French full-back with Premier League clubs like Aston Villa and Fulham. However, his next destination might be Liverpool.

Premier League move on the cards?

Liverpool’s interest in Adrien Truffert is understandable. The Reds are scouring the market for a young full-back who can take over from Andrew Robertson as the first-choice left-back in a few years. While Kostas Tsimikas has been a reliable backup player for Liverpool, he does not have a long-term future at Anfield.

In addition, Robertson is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his illustrious career. So, it behoves Liverpool to identify the ideal long-term successor to the Scotland international, with Truffert emerging as a viable target.

The report has claimed that the Reds are closely monitoring the progress of the 2024 Olympics silver medalist at Stade Rennais. While a summer move might not see the light of day, a deal in one of the two transfer windows in 2024 might materialise.
