Premier League heavyweights Chelsea have reportedly resumed the discussions to sign Victor Osimhen from Serie A club Napoli this summer.
According to an update by Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, Victor Osimhen is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are keen on signing a striker before the summer transfer window shuts down. So, they have revived talks to sign the 25-year-old Napoli striker from the Serie A club in the coming days.
A separate report by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Napoli and Al-Ahli are close to sealing an agreement over a deal worth €65 million. However, the Saudi Pro League outfit had yet to convince Osimhen to join them until Sunday night. There is some update on that front, with his agent hitting out at the links with the big-spending Middle East club.
Victor Osimhen and his future
Victor Osimhen has been one of the best strikers in the world since joining Napoli from LOSC Lille in September 2020. The Nigerian international was already among the most highly-rated centre-forwards in the world before he arrived at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. And he has fulfilled that potential in the last four years.
The 25-year-old has amassed 76 goals and 18 assists in 133 appearances thus far for Napoli. However, Osimhen might have played his final game for the Partenopei amid Antonio Conte’s desire to reunite with Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku. However, the African attacker does not have a shortage of suitors, with Chelsea and Al-Ahli vying for his signature this summer.
A man in demand
Chelsea’s interest in Victor Osimhen is understandable. The Blues have been keen on signing a productive striker in the summer transfer window after being overly dependent on Cole Palmer for goals last season. While they have started the new season well, they can still do with a prolific striker.
Osimhen is thus a viable target for Chelsea, although the Blues and the Napoli striker have differed on the structure of a possible deal. Meanwhile, the Serie A giants are on the verge of sealing an agreement over a deal worth €65 million for the Nigerian international.
However, the 25-year-old does not want to join the Saudi Pro League outfit, with his agent hitting out at the links with Al-Ahli. So, Chelsea might be his only possible destination in the final days of the summer transfer window.
