Barcelona optimistic of sealing Federico Chiesa deal

La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly hopeful of sealing the deal to sign 26-year-old Italian international Federico Chiesa in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Federico Chiesa remains the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are keen on reinforcing their offensive department before the summer transfer window shuts down. They are confident of securing an agreement to sign the Italian international from Juventus in the coming days.

Federico Chiesa and his rollercoaster ride at Juventus

Federico Chiesa was once among the best young attackers in the world during his time at Serie A. The player’s exploits earned him a move to Juventus, with the Bianconeri signing him on an initial loan deal before completing a permanent in July 2022.

However, a long-term loan deal has considerably hampered his progress, with Chiesa regressing in the last 18 months. The 26-year-old struggled to make his mark in the 2023/24 season, contributing to only 13 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net ten times and providing three assists.

However, Federico Chiesa’s stock in the market remains high, with several high-profile clubs setting their sights on him. Many Premier League bigwigs briefly considered signing the Italian international. However, his next destination will likely be Barcelona.

Barcelona beckons

Barcelona’s interest in Federico Chiesa is understandable. The Catalan giants have been keen on reinforcing their offensive department in the summer transfer window. They pursued Nico Williams for several weeks before the Athletic Club forward decided to remain at the Basque club for the 2024/25 season.

Since then, several alternatives have emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with Chiesa being a cost-effective option to bolster the Barcelona attack. The 26-year-old recently boosted Barcelona’s prospects of securing his services after giving the green light to a late summer move. The Catalan giants are now confident of landing the out-of-favour Juventus attacker before the summer transfer window shuts down.

Gianluca Di Marzio has further revealed that all three parties are optimistic that they can seal the agreement over a late deal before next week’s summer transfer window deadline. So, we should see the final steps of the negotiations in the coming days.
