Valencia approve Liverpool move for Giorgi Mamardashvili

Peter Lim has reportedly given the green light to Liverpool to sign 23-year-old Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from La Liga club Valencia.

According to a report by Levante EMV, as relayed by Paisley Gates, Giorgi Mamardashvili is a step closer to joining Liverpool. Valencia owner Peter Lim has approved the Georgian goalkeeper’s impending move to the Merseyside club, with the incoming money from his sale helping Los Che seal the agreement to sign Luis Rioja.

Giorgi Mamardashvili and his rise in La Liga

Giorgi Mamardashvili has been one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga since joining Valencia from Dinamo Tbilisi. Los Che initially completed a loan move for the young shot-stopper before sealing a permanent deal in a few months. Since then, he has not looked back at the Mestalla.

Mamardashvili has turned out over 100 times thus far for Valencia while keeping 31 clean sheets and conceding 117 goals. The 23-year-old goalkeeper recently saw his stock rise further after his exploits at UEFA Euro 2024, where he was one of the best goalkeepers.

Meanwhile, Giorgi Mamardashvili’s exploits for his club and country have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. The Georgian international’s next destination will likely be Liverpool, with the Merseyside outfit pushing hard to secure his signature in the summer transfer window.

From La Liga to the Premier League soon?

Liverpool’s interest in Giorgi Mamardashvili is understandable. While Alisson Becker remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world, he is on the wrong side of 30. In addition, widespread reports have heavily linked the Brazilian international with Saudi Pro League clubs, although a summer move will not see the light of day.

Nevertheless, it behoves Liverpool to lay down a succession plan for Alisson, with the Valencia goalkeeper emerging as the candidate to be the Brazilian’s heir. Personal terms have never been an issue for Liverpool or Mamardashvili. The Reds are now a step closer to landing the 23-year-old, with Valencia owner Peter Lim giving the green light to a summer move.

Liverpool and Valencia have accelerated talks to seal the deal for the Georgian international before the August 30 deadline. The move is only a matter of time, with Mamardashvili expected to become a new Liverpool player in the coming days.
