Aston Villa, Newcastle United in six-way battle for Kieran Tierney

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

The 27-year-old left-back does not have a future at the North London club and he needs to leave in order to play regularly. He was on loan at La Liga club Real Sociedad last season. He will look to get his back on track with regular football and an exit from Arsenal would be ideal.

According to CaughtOffside, six clubs are keen on signing the Scottish international defender. Celtic, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Spanish teams Girona, Sevilla and Valencia are all keen on the player.

Aston Villa need more depth in the left-back department and the Scottish international would be the ideal acquisition. They could provide him with Champions League football as well, and they will be an attractive destination. Similarly, Newcastle have an ambitious project and they are looking to build a formidable side for the future. The 27-year-old could be attracted to the idea of joining them.

The report states that Mikel Arteta wants the defender to stay on beyond this summer. It will be interesting to see what Tierney decides. He will probably want game-time assurances before committing his future to the club.

Arsenal might try to convince the player to stay but they will sanction his departure for £25-30 million if the defender is keen on a departure. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Kieran Tierney needs to play more often

The Scottish defender was highly rated during his time at Celtic and he needs to play regularly at this stage of his career. He could be a key player for top clubs if he can get back to his best once again.

The 27-year-old is at his peak of his powers and he will not want to sit on the bench at a big club.

With that said, it is understandable why Arsenal want to keep him at the club. They are lacking in depth in the left-back department. Oleksandr Zinchenko is the only other option at their disposal. Nuno Tavares has been sent out on loan as well.

Arsenal will look to push for the title and they will look to do well in the UEFA Champions League as well. They need a deeper squad with more quality to match up to the European elite. Players like Tierney could prove to be very useful. The Gunners should try and convince him to stay.
