Barcelona open to selling Andreas Christensen for €25 million

La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly willing to sell Andreas Christensen for €25 million amid his links with Manchester United, Tottenham, and Newcastle United.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Andreas Christensen faces an uncertain future at FC Barcelona in the final week of the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are ready to cash in on the veteran Danish defender to balance their books and fund new signings. The update has boosted the prospects of Manchester United, Tottenham, Hotspur, and Newcastle United.

Andreas Christensen and his Barcelona exploits

Andreas Christensen has been one of the best defenders in La Liga since joining Barcelona from Chelsea in a Bosman move in July 2022 after his deal with the West London club expired. The Dane has reprised multiple roles for the Blaugrana in the last two seasons, excelling wherever he has played on the pitch.

The 28-year-old was a revelation as a holding midfielder in the 2023/24 season and has been top-notch whenever he has played as a centre-back. Christensen has turned out 75 times thus far for Barcelona while chipping in with four goals and three assists. However, the Danish defender faces an uncertain future at the club amid the financial uncertainties, with the situation alerting Manchester United, Tottenham, and Newcastle United.

Premier League return on the cards?

Manchester United hold a long-standing interest in the Denmark international, although it is unclear why they are still keen on signing him. The Red Devils have already signed two centre-backs this summer and do not need another. However, the Barcelona utility man might be an option for the holding midfield role at Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s interest in Andreas Christensen is understandable. The Magpies are keen on signing a centre-back before the summer transfer window shuts down, considering Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are long-term absentees. The Barcelona defender is thus an option worth considering for Newcastle United.

As for Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou wants to complete his central defensive unit by signing a centre-back this summer. However, the former Chelsea defender might be a better option for the holding midfield role amid uncertainties surrounding Yves Bissouma. The three Premier League clubs now have a reasonable chance to land the 28-year-old Dane, with Barcelona ready to sell him for around €25 million.

Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur should have the funds to afford a deal worth €25 million for Christensen. However, it will be interesting to see if the three Premier League clubs produce their offers to sign the Denmark international from Barcelona in the final days of the summer transfer window.
