Edmond Tapsoba has no intentions of parting ways with Bayer Leverkusen amidst interest from Newcastle United.
Eddie Howe is keen on adding more quality and depth to his backline before the end of the transfer window. Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba is one of the names on their wishlist. Newcastle have approached the German club regarding a potential transfer but according to a report from HITC, the Burkina Faso defender wants to continue under Xabi Alonso.
Tapsoba hasn’t looked back since joining the German outfit at the start of 2020. While he has been an important first-team player from the start, he seems to have taken his game to the next level under the Spanish manager. He played an important part in the incredible success they tasted last season as they won the Bundesliga unbeaten and were in the final of the Europa League.
While he still has four years left on his deal at Leverkusen, Tapsoba’s future has been up in the air for quite some time. Multiple top clubs from Europe as well as the Middle East have shown interest in signing the 25-year-old defender.
Newcastle keen on signing Tapsoba
Newcastle United are one of the clubs that have been looking to make a move for the Burkina Faso centre-back. The Magpies lack depth in the heart of the defence. With Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman out inured, they only have two central defenders including new signing Lloyd Kelly.
Eddie Howe is keen on bringing in an experienced central defender and Marc Guehi has been their top target from the start. While the Magpies have been negotiating with Crystal Palace, they haven’t been able to strike a deal and have seen multiple bids get rejected.
Despite receiving multiple setbacks, Newcastle retain their interest in Guehi but they have started looking at alternatives and Tapsoba is quite high on that list. They consider him to be an ideal alternative and have started working on a potential transfer.
Tapsoba to continue at Leverkusen
The Magpies made an approach in recent days as they look to sign a central defender before the end of the window. While they are not the first club to knock on the door for Tapsoba, it seems the 25-year-old has already decided his future.
He has no intentions of leaving the club this summer. The Burkina Faso international wants to continue at the club and play in the Champions League for them. Despite a lot of interest from elsewhere, he doesn’t seem keen on a move away.
