Crystal Palace have placed a bid to sign Tomas Araujo from Benfica as they seek a replacement for Fulham-bound Joachim Andersen.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Crystal Palace have lodged an official bid to sign defender Tomas Araujo from Benfica. Talks are set to continue on club and player sides as the Eagles seek a solid replacement for Fulham-bound Joachim Andersen.
Crystal Palace have made Tomas Araujo bid
Crystal Palace could be involved in a flurry of deals late in the window that could see both incomings and outgoings at Selhurst Park. More specifically, Oliver Glasner could have been without two of his starting centre-backs, who had begun the game against Brentford.
With Marc Guehi heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United, Fulham have managed to agree on a move for Joachim Andersen, as per the latest reporting. The loss of the Danish centre-back will be a blow for Glasner. Hence, they are already in the market for a replacement.
Benfica star Tomas Araujo has emerged as an option for Crystal Palace, with Fabrizio Romano stating they have already made an official bid for the 22-year-old Portuguese defensive prospect. The details of the money offered remain under wraps. But considering the defender’s status at the Primeira Liga side, he should be a cheaper and achievable alternative.
The deal is far from done, as talks between the two clubs will continue for the next few days. Araujo has not found a regular spot with Benfica, with Antonio Silva and Nicolas Otamendi ahead of him in the pecking order. Hence, Palace could find it easier to snap him away from Benfica in this window, although any move will depend on his price tag.
Crystal Palace exploring other options
With Andersen gone soon and Guehi likely to depart, the Eagles are exploring multiple names other than Araujo in this market. Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior is an option, while there are links to other stars like Maxence Lacroix, with the Wolfsburg man reportedly their priority target.
Fenerbahce’s Jayden Oosterwolde is also a target. At the same time, they also have sights on Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, which shows that Crystal Palace are actively looking at multiple centre-back options in the market. Either way, there is movement in and out of the club, with Araujo considered the closest of them in terms of negotiations.
