Crystal Palace lodge opening offer to sign Maxence Lacroix

Crystal Palace will hope to sign 24-year-old Frenchman Maxence Lacroix from Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg with a bid worth £14 million, including add-ons.

According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Maxence Lacroix is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. Oliver Glasner considers the Frenchman his top target to bolster his team’s central defensive options. The Eagles have submitted an opening bid worth £12 million in addition to £2 million in bonuses to sign him from Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg.

Maxence Lacroix and his progress so far

Maxence Lacroix has been one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga since joining VfL Wolfsburg from FC Sochaux in August 2020. A native of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, the French defender spent his formative years in his homeland. He passed through the academies at AS Limeyrat Les Croquants, ES Montignac, FC Thenon Limeyrat, and Trélissac FC before graduating from the youth division at FC Sochaux.

The 24-year-old has come leaps and bounds in the last four years, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for Wolfsburg. Lacroix has turned out 130 times thus far for the Bundesliga outfit while chipping in with seven goals and two assists.

However, the Frenchman faces an uncertain future at the Volkswagen Arena after entering the final 12 months of his contract. Meanwhile, Maxence Lacroix’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. His next destination might be Crystal Palace, with Oliver Glasner keen on a reunion at Selhurst Park.

Premier League beckons?

Crystal Palace’s interest in Maxence Lacroix is understandable. The Eagles are keen on signing a centre-back before the summer transfer window as they prepare to sell Joachim Andersen to Fulham. The South London club wanted to keep the Danish international at Selhurst Park. However, he has agreed to rejoin Fulham in a deal worth around £30 million.

So, Crystal Palace must sign a top-notch replacement, with Lacroix emerging as the priority target. Glasner has pushed the South London outfit to land the 24-year-old Frenchman. The Eagles have now submitted their opening bid to sign Lacroix, offering a package worth £14 million.

The package includes an initial bid worth £12 million and £2 million in add-ons. Meanwhile, Lacroix wants to leave Wolfsburg and embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window. The Bundesliga outfit hoped to convince him to stay at the Volkswagen Arena by handing him the captain’s armband. However, a move to Crystal Palace might be on the cards, although it is unclear if the opening bid will hit the spot.
