Fulham might submit a new and improved bid to sign Crystal Palace defensive mainstay Joachim Andersen, who will cost around £40 million this summer.
According to an update by Sky Sports journalists Dharmesh Sheth and Michael Bridge, Joachim Andersen remains the subject of interest from Fulham. The Cottagers are keen on re-signing the Crystal Palace mainstay before the summer transfer window shuts down and are mulling over a new bid. Meanwhile, the Eagles want around £40 million to part ways with the Danish defender.
Joachim Andersen and his rise at Crystal Palace
Joachim Andersen has been one of the most dependable defenders in the Premier League since joining Crystal Palace from Lyon in July 2021. The Dane has been ever-present at the back for the South London club, with his durability making him an asset at Selhurst Park in the last three years.
The 28-year-old has turned out 113 times thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with three goals and six assists. Meanwhile, Andersen’s progress at Selhurst Park in the last three years has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe.
However, Joachim Andersen’s likeliest move will be across the Premier League, with Fulham presisng hard to re-sign the Denmark international before the summer transfer window shuts down. The Cottagers have already presented a bid worth £20 million to sign him, with Crystal Palace immediately rejecting it as they look for a fee of around £40 million.
Can Fulham re-sign Andersen?
Fulham’s interest in re-signing Joachim Andersen is understandable. The Cottagers are keen on bolstering their backline with another centre-back despite signing Jorge Cuenca from Villarreal. The Spaniard has replaced Tosin Adarabioyo, who has joined Chelsea in a Bosman move this summer.
However, with Tim Ream joining MLS club Charlotte FC, Fulham must sign another centre-back. Andersen has thus emerged as a viable target for Fulham, with the West London club weighing up a new and improved bid to sign him from Crystal Palace.
However, it is unclear if Fulham can turn Joachim Andersen’s head, as he reportedly wants to remain at Crystal Palace beyond the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see who bolsters Fulham’s defensive unit, with the Cottagers also keen on signing Aston Villa centre-back Diego Carlos.
