Manchester City rule out Rodrygo Goes summer swoop

Manchester City have been linked with a move for 23-year-old Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo Goes this summer.

A report from Defensa Central has claimed that Manchester City have now abandoned their pursuit of 23-year-old Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo Goes. The Brazilian is widely regarded as one of the best young attackers in world football.

The youngster has been outstanding for Real Madrid since joining the club from Santos, and he could have been a quality acquisition for Manchester City, who have been linked with a move for a long time.

The Premier League champions recently sanctioned the departure of Julian Alvarez. So, it is no surprise that they are looking at potential replacements. The Brazilian International certainly fits the profile, and he could have been the ideal acquisition for Manchester City.

However, he is a key player for Real Madrid, and the Spanish giants are unlikely to sanction his departure anytime soon. They do not need to sell key players for money and the attacker is unlikely to push for an exit either.

Rodrygo has no reason to leave Real Madrid

Rodrygo is a key player for Real Madrid, and he is playing regularly with the Spanish club. He has helped them win major trophies on a consistent basis as well. The Brazilian will want to stay at Real Madrid and continue his development with regular football.

The player made 51 appearances across all competitions last season, and he ended up scoring 17 goals in the process. He picked up nine assists along the way as well. The 23-year-old is versatile enough to operate as the centre forward as well as a winger on either flank.

Manchester City could certainly use a dynamic forward like him. However, the move for Rodrygo was always unlikely, and it is no surprise that the Premier League giants have decided to walk away from the transfer. It will be Interesting to see if they decide to move for other players now.

Manchester City cannot head into the new season with Erling Haaland as the only reliable striker at the club. They should look to bring in another goalscorer before the summer transfer window closes. The opportunity to join them can be quite attractive for most players. But it is highly unlikely that any player who is a key member of the Real Madrid starting lineup will push to join them.
