Oscar Bobb was discussed in Manchester City, Newcastle United talks for Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United had an interest in Oscar Bobb before his serious injury, as the winger was discussed in a deal with Bruno Guimaraes.

According to HITC, Newcastle United had an interest in Manchester City attacker Oscar Bobb before the 21-year-old winger suffered a severe injury during training. The Norwegian was also reportedly discussed as part of a deal for Bruno Guimaraes, as a move for the Brazilian might become challenging for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Newcastle’s interest in Oscar Bobb

Newcastle United are in the market for a new right-winger and has considered plenty of names. They are still trying to offload Miguel Almiron in this window and probably use the windfall to sign a replacement, who is much younger and delivers the goods for the project under Eddie Howe.

Noni Madueke remains an option for Newcastle United, while others are under consideration before the window shuts. Federico Chiesa’s name was also mentioned, and the Italian does represent a value-for-money target for the Magpies and other interested clubs.

Newcastle were also keen on Oscar Bobb, and the report hints that they might have been closely talking with Manchester City about the deal. The 21-year-old winger had a good season last time out and incidentally scored a single goal, which came at St James Park as a late winner for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Bobb was pencilled in for a breakthrough season before breaking a bone in his foot during training, which now rules him out for around three months. He will have plenty of work before returning to action, which may see him end up well behind in the pecking order, as Manchester City could also dip into the market for a new winger in the time remaining.

Bobb part of Guimaraes deal?

The report also firmly states that Newcastle United might have considered Bobb in negotiations for Bruno Guimaraes. Guardiola could still be interested in signing a new midfielder with the Brazilian, which is one of his preferred targets.

However, with Bobb’s injury and Guimaraes’ £100 million release clause now expired, Manchester City could find it very difficult to broker a deal with Newcastle United. Even if the money is right, the Magpies may not prefer to sell the Brazilian so late in the window, with the season right around the corner.
