Newcastle United have reportedly established formal contacts to sign Logan Costa from Ligue 1 club FC Toulouse this summer.
According to a report by Corriere di Bologna, as relayed by Sport Witness, Logan Costa is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on signing a centre-back before the summer transfer window shuts down. They have established contacts to sign the young FC Toulouse defender, with the Ligue 1 outfit demanding around €18-20 million to part ways with him.
The Logan Costa story
Logan Costa is one of the most promising young defenders in Ligue 1 right now. The French-born defender spent his formative years in France before graduating from the youth division at Stade de Reims. He has been with Toulouse since August 2021, coming leaps and bounds in the last three years at the club.
The 23-year-old has chosen to represent Cape Verde internationally, considering chances with the French national side would have come few and far between. Costa has turned out 57 times thus far for Toulouse while chipping in with four goals and two assists.
Meanwhile, Logan Costa’s progress at FC Toulouse has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards in the summer transfer window, with Newcastle United among his prospective suitors.
Premier League beckons?
Newcastle United’s interest in Logan Costa is understandable. The Magpies have already signed one centre-back this summer, with Lloyd Kelly arriving at St. James’ Park in a Bosman move. However, Newcastle United will look to sign another central defender before the summer transfer window shuts down.
With Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles months away from returning to action, the Tyneside outfit must sign another centre-back. Costa has thus emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United, with the club opening formal contacts to sign the Toulouse defender. Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 outfit will demand around €18-20 million to part ways with him.
Toulouse’s price tag of €18-20 million is not excessive, and Newcastle United should have the funds to afford a move for the French-born Cape Verde international. It will be interesting to see if a move for the 23-year-old sees the light of day.
