Liverpool set to hold initial talks to sign Goncalo Inacio

Liverpool will soon hold talks with Miguel Pinho, the agent of Goncalo Inacio, with an official offer coming in the next few days.

According to a report by A Bola, as relayed by Sport Witness, Goncalo Inacio is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Merseyside club will soon “have a conversation” with Miguel Pinho, the Sporting CP defender’s agent. Meanwhile, the Portuguese international has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract with the Lions.

However, A Bola has claimed that Sporting CP will be open to selling the young defender for around €45 million. Meanwhile, a separate report by O Jogo, as relayed by Sport Witness, has suggested that the Reds are “expected” to submit an official bid to sign him from Sporting soon.

Goncalo Inacio and his rise at Sporting CP

Goncalo Inacio has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the world since breaking into the first-team squad at Sporting CP. A native of Almada, the 22-year-old began his youth career in his hometown before joining Sporting CP in 2012. He rapidly progressed through the ranks at the club before making his first-team bow in October 2020.

Since then, the Portuguese international has come leaps and bounds, establishing himself as a mainstay at the back for Sporting CP. Inacio has turned out 173 times thus far for the Lions while chipping in with 16 goals and nine assists. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Liverpool.

Liverpool interested in Inacio

Liverpool’s interest in Goncalo Inacio is understandable. The Reds have been keen on signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window after losing Joel Matip as a free agent. In addition, recent reports have claimed that new manager Arne Slot does not rate Ibrahima Konate highly.

So, Inacio is a viable target for Liverpool, with the Merseyside club pushing hard to secure his services in the summer transfer window. The latest update has revealed that the Reds want to hold talks with the Sporting CP defender’s agent, Miguel Pinho, regarding a summer move. While he has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract, the Portuguese giants are ready to part ways with him for around €45 million.

In addition, the Reds are “expected” to submit an official bid to sign the €60 million-rated centre-back in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Goncalo Inacio’s career continues with a move to Liverpool in the coming days.
