Chelsea will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old England international Jadon Sancho from Manchester United, with his summer move to PSG unlikely to materialise.
According to an update by reputed German journalist Christopher Michel, Jadon Sancho is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues want to sign the Manchester United forward on an initial loan deal with a mandatory purchase clause. They are also ready to offer two academy prospects in the deal to Manchester United.
The Red Devils value the Englishman at around €40 million, while Chelsea should not have any qualms about bearing his €18 million-a-year wages. Meanwhile, a move to Paris Saint-Germain will unlikely see the light of day after the Ligue 1 champions failed to secure an agreement to land him.
Jadon Sancho and his Manchester United woes
Jadon Sancho has endured a rollercoaster ride since joining Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021. The Red Devils would have hoped to have found the long-sought right-wing solution in the 24-year-old. However, he has never hit the ground running at Old Trafford.
In addition, Sancho’s long-term future at Manchester United has been uncertain since his run-in with Erik ten Hag at the onset of the 2023/24 season. The England international spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Borussia Dortmund. Since returning to Manchester United, reports have linked him with Paris Saint-Germain, with the latest update suggesting Chelsea as a destination.
What next?
PSG’s interest in Jadon Sancho is understandable. The Ligue 1 champions are scouring the market for an offensive reinforcement after losing Kylian Mbappe as a free agent. Sancho was keen on joining PSG, with Les Parisiens ready to offer him a lucrative package to take him to Parc des Princes.
As for Chelsea, the West London club’s interest in Sancho is surprising. The Blues have already bolstered their offensive department by signing Pedro Neto. So, unless Chelsea can offload at least one wide attacker, it does not make sense to land the Manchester United forward. Nevertheless, they are ready to bear his €18 million-a-year wages.
