Wanderers are reportedly confident about beating Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United to the signature of Bastien Meupiyou this summer.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC, Bastien Meupiyou is the subject of interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United are also keen on signing the French prodigy in the summer transfer window. However, Gary O’Neil and his men are confident about landing the FC Nantes wonderkid after submitting a second bid worth £4.3 million.
Who is Bastien Meupiyou?
Bastien Meupiyou is the latest promising prospect to rise in prominence in France. The country has become the breeding ground for some of the best young prodigies in the world, with the last 12 months witnessing the advent of Leny Yoro, Desire Doue, and Mathis Lambourde, among others.
As for Meupiyou, the young Frenchman is a native of Paris and began his youth career at Paris FC before a short stint with Montfermeil. However, the 18-year-old has risen in prominence during his spell with FC Nantes. Meupiyou broke into the Ligue 1 club’s first-team squad at the onset of the 2023/24 season but has made only one appearance thus far for the Canaries.
High in demand
Bastien Meupiyou’s stock is high, with several well-known Premier League clubs setting their sights on him. Tottenham might be interested in the French defensive prodigy as Ange Postecoglou wants another centre-back despite signing two central defenders last season.
Meanwhile, Everton’s interest in Bastien Meupiyou might stem from the uncertainties around the long-term future of Jarrad Branthwaite. As for West Ham United, they have already signed one centre-back, with Jean-Clair Todibo arriving from OGC Nice. However, with Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd, and Konstantinos Mavropanos facing an uncertain future at the London Stadium, West Ham can do with another central defender.
However, Everton, Tottenham, and West Ham United are behind Wolverhampton Wanderers in the chase, with the Black Country outfit submitting an improved bid worth £4.3 million to sign the 18-year-old French prodigy from FC Nantes.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are confident they can beat the competition to Meupiyou’s services before the summer transfer window. However, it will be interesting to see if a bid worth £4.3 million is enough to land the young Frenchman.
