Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have not held any talks to sign Barcelona midfield star Frenkie de Jong this summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have not made any moves to sign Frenkie de Jong in the ongoing transfer window. While the Red Devils do have a long-standing interest in his services, they have not taken it to the next stage yet.
After deciding to stick with Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s new-look recruitment team have gone all out to sign their top targets and strengthen the squad for the 2024/25 season. They have added three defenders and a forward to help them take the next step.
Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro will add depth to the heart of the defence, while Noussair Mazraoui will strengthen the full-back areasm and Joshua Zirzkee will provide Rasmus Hojlund support in the final third. Since making the move to Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag has not been afraid to sign his former Ajax players.
Andre Onana and Antony are already a part of the mix and he has added De Ligt and Mazraoui this summer. If given an opportunity, the Dutch manager would love to have Frenkie de Jong as well. He wanted to sign the Barcelona star in the summer of 2022.
Unfortunately, Manchester United could not strike a deal with the Blaugrana and ended up singing Casemiro from Real Madrid instead. While the Brazilian had an exceptional debut campaign, he had a significant deep in the second season, and they have started to look for someone who can replace him.
Manchester United not in talks to sign de Jong
Manchester United remain interested in De Jong’s signature. But bringing him to the Premier League at this point in time looks very difficult. The Dutchman is the highest-paid player in La Liga with a whopping £606,000-a-week wages. As a result, his wages could prove a handful.
More importantly, the Catalan giants consider him an integral part of their setup and have him protected with a massive release clause. As a result, Barcelona are unlikely to let him leave on the cheap.
Frenkie de Jong has recently been linked with a move to Manchester United. But Fabrizio Romano has suggested nothing is going on at this stage. Both clubs are not in talks with regards to a potential deal. While things could change in the near future, at this stage United have not made any move to bring him to Old Trafford.
