Jorge Mendes is in England to discuss Manuel Ugarte’s transfer to Manchester United; a move to Old Trafford looks imminent.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Jorge Mendes has travelled to England to discuss a few important transfers. The Portuguese super-agent is all set to hold talk with Manchester United about a move for Manuel Ugarte. While the Red Devils already have an agreement in place with the player, the negotiations have not progressed at a good rate.
However, Mendes’s arrival could change things up. Meanwhile, a report from El Pais via Sport Witness suggests that both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are closing in on an agreement. They are expected to reach a common ground soon, with over two weeks left in the window, the Red Devils could get their hands on one of their key targets.
Manuel Ugarte to leave PSG just 12 months after joining?
After making a name for himself at Sporting CP, Ugarte made the move to PSG last summer. While he was one of the preferred choices in the first half of the season, he fell down the pecking order towards the business end of the season.
Luis Enrique is not a big fan of the South American defensive midfielder. The PSG manager does not seem to count on him. As a result, the Ligue 1 champions have been looking to offload him.
Manchester United’s major focus has been on reinforcing their backline. With things going according to plan on that front, they are also looking for a young defensive midfielder who can take over from Casemiro. They feel Ugarte is an ideal fit and he could form a dependable partnership with Kobbie Mainoo.
Manchester United pushing for Ugarte, move close
The 23-year-old Uruguayan international is keen on a move to Old Trafford. He has already agreed personal terms with the Red Devils and is pushing for a move. With PSG looking to offload him, Erik ten Hag’s team have been looking to strike a deal.
While Jorge Mendes has travelled to England to discuss Ugarte with Manchester United, the English club are not in the best of the situation as per Romano. They need the asking price to be lowered or will have to wait for another departure before making a move. If things do not work out they will look at a cheaper option.
However, according to the report from the Uruguayan newspaper El Pais, the two clubs have got closer to negotiating over the weekend. The French club have agreed to lower their demand with the player pushing hard for the move.
